The Monkton Group’s mission is to “keep the world a habitable place” by developing renewable energy sources and the markets that are associated with such ventures. With this in mind, Monkton have acquired Good Energy Ltd and Windelectric ltd, both of which are purely renewable energy suppliers. With this strategy firmly in place the Monkton / Good Energy group have continued to expand and have won several prestigious awards for their contribution to the renewable and sustainable energy market.
They were formed in 1997 to after the introduction of the government’s Renewable Obligation and Renewable Obligation Scotland programs. These programs are a result of the UK government’s response to the Kyoto conference on climate change.
They floated the company in June 2002 and raised over £600,000 from 650 investors. This allowed them to expand their customer base to over 10,000. In June 2004 the company started its second share offer; this raised over £1million, which was used to expand the customer base. Later in November 2007 there was a further share issue with the intention of raising a further £1.6 million.
They only supply energy from renewable sources, as well as wind power they are also investing in solar and biomass generation. Biomass is the term used to describe energy generated by burning sustainably produced organic materials, such as wood pellets, forestry by-products and fibrous waste from industry which would normally find its way into landfill,
