100 Watt Light Bulbs on Their Way Out
Posted on: September 3rd, 2009 by Jason DrewStaring from Tuesday, 100 watt incandescent light bulbs will be on their way out. They will join things like typewriters and tape cassettes that are now considered as defunct consumer items. These light bulbs making their way out of the world comes into play as the EU makes its push towards making a more environment friendly place. These lights will be replaced with eco friendly compact fluorescent lights.
When looking at the phasing out of the 100 watt light bulb from a green point of view, it’s a great idea. The 100 watt light bulb may have been around for more than 100 years, but newer energy saving bulbs actually use about 80 percent less electricity. This is not only good for the environment, but it is also good for homeowners looking to cut down on their power bills. New reports suggest that homeowners could actually save about £45 a year and cut down on carbon emissions by switching to these newer bulbs.
The Energy Saving Trust has already noted that switching to these bulbs will make a huge difference in the national energy consumption. Although just a few people switching to these bulbs would not make much of a difference, getting everyone to switch will make a huge difference.
However, forcing people to make the switch to these energy saving light bulbs has not been meet with open arms. In fact, a lot of people have come out and clearly said that they hate energy saving light bulbs, because they put off less light. A newspaper even went as far as to come up with a scary story on how these new lights could give people skin cancer. However, what many people fail to see is that the source was referring to people with extreme forms of lupus.
