Vestas To Build Offshore Wind Farm for Belwind N.V

Posted on: August 4th, 2009 by Samantha Donovan

Vestas has secured a deal for the Blight Bank Offshore Wind Farm, a wind power plant, which houses 55 units of V90 3MW wind facility.  The new wind power plant is going to be situated 46Kms off Zeebrugge, a coastal city.  The area where the wind farm is to be built was previously set aside by the Belgian Government for wind farms.

Blight Bank Offshore Wind Farm will be owned by Belwind N.V., a group of mixed Belgian and Dutch investors. Vestas will be responisble for design, delivery, and installation, in addition to any required testing.  The agreement also commits Vestas to a five year service and availability agreement. Van Oord Dredging, a Dutch contractor, and Marine Contractors N.V. will be sharing responsibility for the engineering, supplies, and construction of the new wind farm.

Construction of the wind farm is expected to take place during 2010. Vestas has quoted that the wind farm should be completed by early 2011.

“This 165 MW wind farm is the first phase of the 330 MW Belwind project. We look forward to working together with Vestas and Van Oord on the construction of the project which is a major step forward in realising the Belgian renewable energy targets. We are proud of our investors and banks, who enabled us to realise this investment in difficult financial times,” said Frank Coenen of Belwind N.V.
