Areva Acquires Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturer
Posted on: August 20th, 2009 by Emma YoungAreva, a technology company based in France, just acquired PN Rotor GmbH, a wind turbine manufacturer based in Germany. The German company mainly manufactures offshore wind turbine blades for widespread commercial use.
The high performance blade manufacturer was sold to Areva by its parent company, Prokon Nord Energiesysteme GmbH. Areva hopes to use that acquisition as a means to increase their maneuverability in the offshore wind industry.
PN Rotor GmbH will be a foothold for the technology company in the wind industry, as well as provide them with the ability to manufacture wind turbine blades for commercial sale worldwide.
Anil Srivastava, CEO of Areva’s Renewables business unit, stated, “This acquisition reinforces Areva’s ability to bring value to its offshore wind customers by securing the supply of a broader range of key components. The group is on track to become a major player in this rapidly growing sector.”
Areva also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide 80 of their Multibrid M5000 turbines for a 400 MW project in Germany, German Global Tech I wind farm, scheduled for construction in the North Sea.
