BiFab Announces Plan to Expand Renewable Generation
Posted on: April 15th, 2010 by Tessa ClarkeOne energy company, BiFab, has just recently announced its plans to extend its work in supplying renewable energy from offshore wind centers. This is good news since many energy companies in the UK have been working on improving their overall renewable energy production.
BiFab was originally an expert in deep water oil and gas exploration. Thus, it only makes sense that the company will now work on offshore renewables.
Jim Mather, the UK energy minister, said that the investment that they are announcing anchors BiFab to Fife Energy park and secures a major economic boost for the region. It also underlines Scotland’s leading position in the global development and deployment of offshore renewable energy generation.
According to reports, this facility will secure up to 400 jobs in the area. It will also help BiFab to expand its output. It appears that the move to diversify renewables has proven to be financially rewarding for this company.
BiFab did recently report that its annual turnover has grown from £20 million to £90 million in the four years since it first began exploring offshore wind generation. However, the company does look into wave and tidal power generation as well.
Experts say that the UK cannot rely on just one kind of renewable energy. It is a good idea to really diversify how the country gets its power. Relying too much on just one source could just lead people to the same problem that the world is in today. This is why companies are looking into solar, wind and tidal power. It’s this kind of diversity that can keep the UK running.
