BMW to Launch its First Hybrid Car
Posted on: August 31st, 2009 by Emma YoungNew reports now show that BMW is set to unveil its full production hybrid car. This new car is going to be shown off at the International Motor Shown in Frankfurt, Germany in September of this year. The German car giant claims that its hybrid car, which is being called the Active Hybrid X6, is going to be the world’s most powerful hybrid on the market. They also claim that the fuel consumption and the emissions of the car will be slashed by almost 20 percent.
The Active Hybrid X6 will be able to hit speeds of 130 miles per hour. This speed is reached by two electric motors, a 300kW V8 power unit and twin power turbo technology. With this kind of power, the Active Hybrid X6 can also hit 60 miles an hour in less than six seconds. Although the car is high in power it still is able to remain very eco friendly. In fact, the EU was able to give the Active Hybrid X6 a CO2 rating of 231g/km.
Some of the key highlights of the car include the feature that allows the Active Hybrid X6 to operate solely on electric power. This allows the car to produce zero carbon emissions. Other features include automatically shutting down in stationary traffic and the ability to capture some of its energy lost through breaking.
America can expect to see the Active Hybrid X6 in showrooms by the end of 2009. It is not clear when other areas of the world will get the car. The next model of the car is already slated for a spring release next year.
