Britain to host electric motorcycle racing event
Posted on: December 2nd, 2009 by Emma YoungTTXGP UK Championship 2010 has confirmed that three motorcycle racing events are to be held in Britain from 3 July to 11 September 2010. Cadwell Park, Castle Coombe and Snetterton are the venues that will host the zero-emission race event.
The race is in conjunction with the TTXGP North American Championship, which is scheduled in May 2010. The winning teams from both TTXGP events will compete in a grand finale on November next year.
Members of the TTXGP were delighted on the announcement confirming the event, said Azhar Hussain, the founder of TTXGP.
The initiative is endorsed by the Auto Cycle Union (ACU), with the support from the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF), a group composed of more than 350 motorcycle associations with over 92,000 member riders all over the UK.
The ACU is the central body for motorcycle racing in the UK and has been engaged in two-wheeled motor sports for a century. Dave Luscombe of ACU believes that the advancement of electric motorcycle racing will secure the future of the sport for the next 100 years.
Team Agni, who won the inaugural TTXGP in June, had already signed up for the UK Championship race. The team will use two bikes in the UK series, said Arvind Rabadia, Agni’s managing director.
In line with the UK event, the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM) had also instigated its own electric-powered motorcycle racing event named e-Power International Series. TTXGP and FIM had worked together in the past on several electric racing events even before FIM announced its own e-Power series.
