British Energy Welcomes UK Nuclear Revival

Posted on: January 16th, 2008 by admin

British Energy, a UK-based energy producer, recognised the decision by the UK government that nuclear power would be a preferred method of developing future energy sources by stating that it was taking steps to further that goal.
The UK government issued a statement Thursday that nuclear power will be part of the UK’s future energy mix, and welcomed companies to issue plans to build new nuclear power stations.
British Energy said it is on board with the government directive stating that it wanted to be well positioned to be at the center of the new build program.  The company is building a dedicated team with expertise in design, nuclear licensing, consent, construction and operation of nuclear stations in the UK and worldwide.
British Energy is in possession of eight sites next to existing licensed nuclear facilities.  These sites are amongst the best potential candidates for the construction of new nuclear power stations. The company is currently commencing detailed assessments of its sites.
Bill Coley, CEO of the British Energy Group, commented: “The government’s decision is good news for the people of the UK today, and for future generations. A balanced energy policy of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and new electricity generation from clean fossil fuels, renewables, and nuclear power can provide reliable, affordable electricity to meet both our energy security and climate change goals.”
