British Retail Consortium Comes up with New Scrappage Scheme
Posted on: August 24th, 2009 by Justin BecksRight now, all of the UK has a lot of manpower going into reducing CO2 and becoming more green. Due to the recession, many Brits are also trying to come up with ways to reduce their energy bills. Besides just switching energy suppliers online, many Brits are finding out that it can be a very daunting task to try and reduce the cost of electricity bills.
However, the British Retail Consortium, also called the BRC, is hoping to make energy saving just a little bit easier. They are hoping to do this with the introduction of a new appliance scrappage scheme. This new scheme would be very similar to the scheme that was introduced by the UK government earlier this year for people buying new cars.
British Retail Consortium has called on ministers to support this brand new scheme. If the scheme gets approved, then it would allow people to trade in their old electricity guzzling appliances and switch to new appliances that would save them money by using less electricity. Things that would be included in this scheme would be things like freezers, dishwashers, fridges, and so on. After turning in these old appliances people would be able to get discounts on new ones.
The British Retail Consortium goes on to say that this scheme would not just save consumers money on their electricity bills, but this scheme would help to cut down on the UK carbon emissions by almost 1.3 million tonnes by the year 2020. The organization goes on to claim that modern fridge freezers use about half the amount of energy that a fridge bought back in 1995 uses.
