Cambridgeshire Residents Encouraged to Recycle

Posted on: December 31st, 2009 by Samantha Donovan

Right now people around the world are being encourage to do their part to save the planet, but this is something that goes double for the people that are living in Cambridgeshire. The residents living here are being urged to boost their recycling efforts over the Christmas holiday season.

Official statistics now show that, on average, household waste increases dramatically over the festive season. This does not just include Christmas but into the New Year celebration as well. Now people are being asked to remember to recycle to cut down on the amount of waste that is taken to the dump.

Unless households can remember to recycle, much of this waste will sit in these landfills. Overtime this just releases more harmful greenhouse gas emissions and damages the environment as a whole.

Thus, in order to help residents reduce the amount of their household waste disposed of in this way, Cambridgeshire Country Council has announced that the region’s recycling centers will be open every day over the festive period with the exception of public holidays. The waste and recycling officer, Simon Lacey, said that people should not forget that recycling centers take a huge range of items for recycling.

Simon went on to say that these recycling centers take things like Christmas tress, cardboard packaging, and even waste electrical items. Of course, these centers take these kinds of things on top of the glass bottles and cans as well.

If everyone in one place can do their part to save the world, then everyone around the world should be able to do so as well. As of now, people tend to get lazy around the holidays and do not think about recycling. Cambridgeshire is trying to change that by showing that these centers are going to stay open during the holiday season.
