Celebrity Equinox Is Worlds Most Eco Friendly Ship

Posted on: July 29th, 2009 by Lynnette Adamson

Although people may not be able to notice it at first glance, the new Celebrity Equinox ship brings in a new generation of vessels. The ship, which was built in Germany by Celebrity Cruises, is not just a luxury cruise ship but a leap forward in helping the world reach its green goal.

A sister ship is also being built right now and is set for a release next summer. This ship, the Celebrity Eclipse, is also set to cut back on its environmental footprint.

So what makes these ships so eco friendly? Well, it’s actually a whole list of things. First of the all, there are more than 200 solar panels on the Celebrity Equinox that provide power to the boat. It’s enough power to run 7,000 LED lights, and this in turn, boosts the ship’s electricity grid. There is also a special silicon coating on the underwater hull area to reduce resistance as the ship moves through the water. This actually reduces the fuel consumption of the ship. The coating is non toxic, thus, not harmful to sea life.

The Celebrity Equinox’s acres of glass are specifically manufactured to reduce heat transfer from outside the cabins and public rooms. This, in turn, helps to cut down on the amount of air conditioning that has to be used. The glass still allows the natural light to enter the ship, but it also filters out 99.9 percent of UV rays to protect the furnishings and people in the ship.

All the waste water that leaves the ship actually goes through a purification system. This means the waste water is practically drinkable before it is discharged into the ocean.
