Cheaper Gas Bills Could Help Brits get to France

Posted on: April 30th, 2010 by Lynnette Adamson

It now seems that cheap gas bills could allow Brits who have been strapped for cash get themselves out of the UK this summer. Even more reports have shown that, due to higher oil prices, Brits who choose to travel to France by way of train could even save more money.

According to the Association of European Rail Agents, many Brits will choose to take a vacation by way of train over any other kind of transport. This goes double for anyone that is traveling directly between one city to another.

So how do environmentalists feel about this? Well most of them are all for it. Most environmentalists agree that travel done by train is better than travel done by both car and plane.

The money that Brits have been saving on cheaper gas bill and from booking train tickets in advance could be why people are seeing such a big increase in trips to France. Chairperson for the Association of European Rails, Toni Rixson, said that when holidaymakers fly they have to travel to and from the airport as well. This costs more money and puts more carbon emissions in the air.

Cash conscious consumers could save even more money by not having to worry about luggage charges. When people fly with planes, it costs a lot of money to bring luggage. Thus, these travelers get to feel good about themselves for not only traveling by train and lowering their carbon footprint, but they are also saving money.

Eurostar just recently revealed that more than 84 percent of Brits would probably or definitely choose high speed rail over air when planning their next visit to the continent. Thus, these cheaper gas bills could be helping to get the UK economy moving again.
