Coal Energy Benefits Nottinghamshire Miners
Posted on: April 14th, 2009 by Jason DrewMany experts are saying that coal could be a great way to generate cheap electricity for the UK. This could be a promising boost for the Nottingham mine pits. Now that the UK is running behind schedule of coming up with ways of generating more renewable energy (such as wind farms) experts say that the UK will have to turn to other ways to generate cheap power until more renewable energy sources can be made.
To help lighten the load on renewable energy, UK Coal is in the process of negotiating a series of new supply deals. Right now these negotiations are with unnamed electricity firms. The company has already signed one new deal so far. However, no details are to be given out until the annual trading results are published later on this month.
Although all of the talk will not be finalized until upcoming weeks, many people say that the coal mines that UK Coal has in Nottingham are likely to benefit from these new agreements. The firm already has mines in Meden Vale and Thoresby, and now it is considering the reopening of the mine in Harworth. They claim that this would be a very profitable move since energy prices have now risen.
The reopening of the coal mines would, not only be able to supply the UK with some cheap sources of energy, but it would also bring many new jobs to a struggling job market. Also, the UK government is offering award grants to the study of carbon capture. This will help reduce the amount of carbon emissions that is put off by coal burning plants.
