Consultative meeting over new nuclear plant to be held
Posted on: April 7th, 2008 by Emma YoungBritish Energy, which owns and operates Hinkley Point B nuclear power station close to Burnham-On-Sea, is to organize a public meeting towards the end of this month to deliberate on the potential plans for a new nuclear power plant.
The meeting will be held on the twenty third of April and will give the locals an opportunity to deliberate on the company’s work concerning the preparations for a new nuclear power station. They will also get to know more about the process of choosing sites as well as to learn more about the Government’s response to the public consultative meeting held earlier in 2007.
A spokesperson for British Energy said that the firm aims to be at the heart of any construction of new nuclear plants and has already begun assessment work in several locations across the United Kingdom, with Hinkley Point being one of them. The assessments help in getting knowledge of the locations and the environmental and economic impact the nuclear projects are likely to have in these areas.
The spokesperson added that although there was still much work to be done before decisions on sites and technology were made, it was the policy of British Energy to engage the locals one on one and listen to them.
British Energy will deliver a presentation on the possibility for a new nuclear facility at Hinkley. There will also be a representative from the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, who will enlighten the locals on the government’s plans for nuclear power in the United Kingdom.
