Creating Energy Efficiency with Small Steps
Posted on: January 28th, 2008 by adminAlmost half of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions come from energy consumers use every day - at home and when traveling. By taking on the role of energy saver at work, home, at school you can protect the environment for you, your family and future generations, and at the same time, save money.
In most residences lighting accounts for 10%-15% of the electricity bill. Energy-efficient light bulbs use a quarter of the electricity, and help to cut down on greenhouse gases. They also last up to 15 times longer and could save £7 off your electricity bill each year.
Turning down the thermostat one degree can also help to reduce global warming and cut your heating bill by around £30 a year.
Little steps like boiling just the amount of water needed when making a hot drink can save enough energy in a week to light a house for a day. It’s an easy step you can take that’s totally painless.
If you hang your washing up to dry rather than use a tumbler dryer you will be cutting down on the amount of energy you use. When buying fridges, freezers, washing machines or tumble dryers, make sure you look at the energy-efficiency label. Models labelled Grade A are most efficient and may only use up half the energy of a similar G-rated model.
