Posted on: October 23rd, 2009 by Beth Williams

A British automotive company, e-motive, has launched a series of new electric scooters which will be available commercially this year. Three separate versions of the new electric scooters will be offered, aptly named the e1, e3, and e5, and the running costs are reportedly less than one pound per mile.

Furthermore, the original e1 will also come in three separate variations the e1S, the e1, and the e1+. The e1S runs on a 2kW electric motor and uses an efficient, cheap silicon battery. The max speed for the scooter is 28 mph and it is able to go a distance of about 35 miles before needing recharge.

Prices for the e1 scooters range from £1,399 to  £2,249. Also available is the e3 model which can accommodate two passengers and is more suitable for longer trips on the A-roads. This scooter has a 4kW engine and can go up to 55 mph. The price for the e3 is £2,999. Lastly, the e5, which is the most aerodynamic, can reach speeds of 65 mph and is capable of going 80 miles prior to recharge.

The scooters are set to be distributed by 25 different retailers. Currently retailers are already taking bookings for test drives of the new scooters. Each scooter will come equipped with a two year service warranty , and two years of AA roadside assistance. Charging times for the e-motive scooters have not been released yet, however, the scooters plug into a regular domestic wall plug.
