East Kent suffers blackout
Posted on: May 27th, 2008 by Emma YoungEast Kent experienced power outages which were blamed on faults at the power station. The cause of the power outages which were experienced in most of parts of Kent was attributed to problems at the power station where two power stations went off-line one after the other in just under two minutes. This was according to a statement from the National Grid.
It was however impossible to get the company to disclose which power stations had gone offline and thereby causing the outages. The company could not also reveal the cause of the power blackouts.
The blackouts occurred at around half past eleven in the morning and affected those on the national grid network who were caught unawares.
A spokesperson from the National Grid spokesman explained that the blackout was all for the benefit of the electricity consumers in the United Kingdom. He further added that because of the way the system was designed, sometimes for the protection of most of the electricity demand in the United Kingdom, some areas had to be disconnected for some time all in an effort to put the frequency back to safe operating levels.
The spokesperson for the National Grid disclosed that electricity supply was soon resumed and where it was not the firm was doing all it could together with the electricity distribution network operators to reconnect customers as soon as possible in order to return the situation to normalcy.
At noon EDF Energy, which is the major provider of electricity in most of the south east parts of Kent disclosed that electricity had been restored to all the consumers who had experienced the power outages.
