ElectraLink Buys eMeter’s Smart-Grid Software

Posted on: August 19th, 2009 by Jason Drew

EMeter announced today that they will be providing software for London-based company ElectraLink. The software will aid the company in services to energy customers, networks, and agents located in the UK.

The smart-grid management software, which includes the Energy IP line that ElectraLink has chosen, is designed to help utility companies become more efficient. So far, the software company has sold 24 million smart meters to utilities around the globe. ElectraLink operates out of London as a data collector and consulting service for UK-based utilities.

ElectraLink’s new software purchase will allow the company to utilise new smart grid technology to monitor energy consumed by business services such as registration, installation, billing, and customer information. Additionally, the Energy IP software will be used to collect data from smart-grid meters and rely that data in real-time, or save it for companies involved in the UK energy market.

The software purchase comes in the wake of the UK government announcing plans to have all UK households use smart meter equipment by 2020. ElectraLink has said that it purchased the software in order to have alternative methods should implementation and development issues arise. The new software will allow ElectraLink to monitor energy use despite ever changing regulations.

Last Febraury, eMeter also sold their technology software to CenterPoint Energy, based in Texas, and the company has been steadily making a name for themselves in the smart grid technology market. Emeter will also provide software to Southern California Edison and Independent Electricity System Operator, in Ontario, Canada.
