Element Lexington Will House EV Chargers in Parking Lot

Posted on: July 27th, 2009 by Justin Becks

Carbon Day Automotive will join with Element Hotels to install electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot of Element’s new hotel the Element Lexington.  The hotel opened in July 2008 as part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.’s new eco friendly hotel chain Element Hotels.

The charging stations developed by  Coulomb Technologies and known as ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations will be available to both guests of the hotels and residents living the area.  The stations will be built into the hotel’s already existing parking lot, and electric vehicle owners will be able to locate them and view occupancy status via Google(TM) maps.

The Element Hotels chain was designed to create hotels committed to green travel.  Currently there are four Element hotels in existence and each one is mandated by the company to comply with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

“By offering a charging station for electric vehicles, we are deepening our commitment to greener travel as a key part of an environmentally responsible lifestyle,” said Brian McGuinness, Senior Vice President, Specialty-Select Brands, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. “We are proud to be playing a part in the development of the infrastructure needed to support the anticipated increase in electric vehicles over the next several years.”

Element and Carbon Day have agreed to split the cost for the ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations, which are outfitted with a universal plug-in making them capable of charging all types of electric vehicles including cars, scooters, and Segways.
