Energy experts not impressed with green energy strategy

As the green energy strategy awaits unveiling energy experts are accusing the government of being a latter-day convert. Experts say that the United Kingdom is playing when other nations in the world are already steps ahead in renewable energy generation.

The experts say that for instance electricity generated from wind sources could comprise a total of fifteen per cent in the United States in about ten years. They also gave the example of China which has emerged as the second biggest manufacturer of photovoltaic solar panels in the world.

The renewable energy strategy in the United Kingdom aims to increase the amount of electricity that is generated from renewable sources to about fifteen per cent of the total production by the year 2020. Currently the figure stands at just about two per cent.

The renewable energy strategy will involve fast tracking wind farm planning applications to ensure that at the minimum three thousand and five hundred wind energy turbines get approval. The renewable strategy is envisaging the spending of about one hundred billion sterling pounds to subsidize the green energy projects. One of the biggest green energy schemes will be the Severn tidal barrage which is expected to provide at least five per cent of the electricity requirements in the country.
Other initiatives will involve giving tax breaks for electric cars which are expected to cut down fuel consumption in motor vehicles by over fifty per cent.

The most critical of the renewable energy sources will be wind. The current wind energy generation capacity is four gigawatts but this needs to be raised to about twenty five gigawatts.
