Energy Revolution Says Renewable Energy Could Generate 95 Percent of Electricity Needs
Posted on: June 10th, 2010 by Tessa ClarkeApparently there are some companies out there that say the majority of electricity needs could be produced by renewable energy as soon as 2050. According to Energy Revolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook, 95 percent of the world’s electricity needs could be generated by renewable methods by midway through this century.
Greenpeace, which is of course the group that delivered the report in conjunction with the European Renewable Energy Council, claimed that the research provided a very detailed blueprint for cutting carbon emissions while achieving economic growth. These are two things that everyone wants.
Part of the economic growth would, of course, be in the creation of millions of job opportunities from renewable energy. This is an industry that would have to grow, and with growth comes the creation of yet more jobs for the public. This could involve almost 8.5 million posts in the renewable sector alone by 2030.
The secretary general of the European Renewable Energy Council, Christine Lins, said that the 2010 Energy Revolution report outlines pathways towards a 100 percent renewable energy supply for the world. It goes on to demonstrate that there is no technological barrier to achieve this vision and reaping its many benefits in terms of jobs and environment.
The report itself outlines a peak in global carbon dioxide emissions in 2015 and then a decline from there on out. However, not everyone is on board with this report. Major energy companies and oil companies are not so sure if this report outlines the way of the future. There are likely to be many more doubts on this subject for a long time to come.
