Energy Secretary Faces Charges

According to reports, it now appears that prosecutors announced at the end of last week that Energy Secretary Chris Huhne will face charges. For those that do not know, he will face charges for allegedly lying about a speeding ticket to get out of a driving ban nine years ago. Now it appears that this possible lie could cost him a lot more than he ever knew.
Keir Starmer, who is the director of public prosecution, was the one to make the announcement. Reports suggest that the announcement was made in a televised statement in London. Needless to say, tons of people tuned in to hear the outcome.
Reports show that police in the eastern English country of Essex actually opened a probe just last year into allegations that Huhne asked his then wife, Vicky Pryce, to say she had been driving his car when it was caught speeding. Apparently, he asked her to do this so that he would not lose his license. Of course, Huhne has denied any kind of wrongdoing. Regardless of the outcome, it is likely that he will continue to go on denying it.
Since it has been ruled that Huhne will face charges for this, it puts a lot of pressure on to to go ahead and step down from his position. Right now, the energy secretary is one of five Cabinet members from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s Liberal Democrats. If Mr. Huhne was to step down, it would then open the way for the return of David Laws, who is the Liberal Democrat, who stepped down as chief secretary to the Treasury after less than three weeks in the job.
Either way, this announcement could mean big things for the energy industry. Right now, a lot of people have their eyes on the UK energy market. With such a big push being made for renewable energy, a change in this position will likely result in different ideas being pursued more than others.
