Enterprise Buys 500 Nissan Leaf Battery Cars
Posted on: July 28th, 2010 by Jason DrewIt now seems that Nissan, which is a car maker that’s major aim right now is to become the world’s biggest producer of electric cars, said that it is selling rechargeable Leaf hatchbacks to Enterprise. These cars, of course, will be used in the company’s rental car operations.
Enterprise, which is the operator of Alamo, National and Enterprise Rent A Car, is buying 500 of these lithium ion-powered Leafs. According to Kathrine Zachary, a spokeswoman for Nissan, the first vehicles are to be delivered to Enterprise next January.
Nissan is Japan’s third largest automaker. It’s goal is to sell at least 20,000 units of the $32,780 Leaf in the United States during the model’s first year. The chief executive officer of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, set a goal of expanding global Leaf production to as many as 500,000 vehicles by the end of 2012.
This big sale for Nissan’s electric cars to Enterprise is the second of such an arrangement. In fact, back in February the company said that it would be supplying Nissan Lefts to Hertz. The vehicles that will be used by Hertz will be available both in the United States and in Europe.
Of course, the sale of Leaf cars to Enterprise has been pretty big news - mostly due to the fact that people are starting to pay a lot more attention to green news. Thus companies, especially car hire companies, want to get the word out there about their “green” achievements as soon as possible.
For travel industry companies, in order to stay in the race, they have to make a switch to be greener. More and more people are looking for greener options when they travel. Travel companies that do not make the switch risk being left behind.
