E.ON Climate & Renewables Partners with Bionersis in Southeast Asia

Posted on: October 23rd, 2009 by Jenson Brayshaw

Bionersis and E.ON Climate and Renewables, a clean energy subsidy of the German utility giant, just announced a joint venture project to partner with Clean Development Mechanism in Southeast Asia.

Bionersis, according to the terms of the agreement, will be in charge of installation and operating the methane recovery. Additionally, Bionersis will develop the flaring systems for waste sites across Southeast Asian countries. E.ON renewables will be in charge of providing technical assistance for the gas-powered facility. The companies will share profits equally.

E.ON has said that the partnership will be a good mix of E.ON’s investment capabilities and Bionersis’ development and operational skills for CDM gas landfill projects. Currently, the companies are assessing several projects in Southeast Asia and things are expected to get underway over the next 18 months.

The first joint venture for the companies is set to be constructed in Thailand at Kamphaeng Saen, which is Southeast Asia’s largest landfill. The project will be the first for Bionersis in Thailand.

The project is anticipated to reduce methane emissions which damage the environment yielding up to 2 million CERs over the course of the next ten years. The CERs will be split jointly by both companies. The firms have already registered the Thailand project with the UNFCCC.
