E.on hires goalkeeper James for its energy campaign

Posted on: January 7th, 2010 by Beth Williams

Energy provider E.on is teaming up with David James, one of the UK’s top goalkeepers, to introduce its ‘Great Saves’ campaign.

Through the campaign, E.on is offering UK families the chance to win Football League and FA Cup prizes in exchange for sharing their power saving tips. The energy saving approaches will be judged by Graham Bartlett, Managing Director of E.on; Fraser Winterbottom from the Energy Trust; and David James. The winning family will have the opportunity to be with the players at FA Cup’s final match at Wembley in May.

Great Saves followed E.on’s earlier ‘Talking Energy’ campaign, launched last October to deal with matters relating to energy saving from a customer’s viewpoint. The energy provider’s sponsorship is set to end after the FA Cup finals. E.on was reported to be looking at future sponsorship opportunities elsewhere.

E.on’s Head of Sponsorship and Events, Phil Boas, informed that it was great working with James as he was passionate about environmental issues. Meanwhile, James, a Portsmouth and England goalkeeper, commented that he like the way E.on had used FA Cup to educate and raise awareness on green issues. James was first hired by E.on in the Talking Energy campaign.

Meanwhile, E.on had also begun the distribution of its energy magazine, which will be given to all 646 UK parliamentarians three times a year to inform them on how they can support UK energy policies. The magazine, called ‘Onenergy’, also presents the company’s views on energy policies and its business in the country.
