E.ON plans for 20MW wind farm in Kirkby Lonsdale

Posted on: November 12th, 2009 by Beth Williams

E.ON had announced plans to construct a new wind park near Kirkby Lonsdale at the border between Cumbria and Lancashire. The firm had informed that the proposed 20MW Longfield Tarn wind park would be consisted of about nine turbines that could supply enough electricity to power approximately 9,000 homes for a year and to displace around 19,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

E.ON had already submitted the scoping statement to the city council of Lancaster and to other interested parties, and it intends to provide the full planning application by 2010. Nick Taylor, Project Developer of E.ON, said that Kirkby Lonsdale is a good location for a wind farm. He added that E.ON will conduct further studies to the place over the next months.

A spokesman from Lanchaster City Council had confirmed that it had received the application from E.ON for the planned wind park at Longfield Tarn. In a statement, the city council explained the procedure.

The use of the application is to ask the Lanchaster City Council what information should be included in the environmental impact assessment. Examples of information that could be asked for the company to present are the impact of the project on low flying aircrafts, the landscape, noise pollution and the area’s ecology.

A representative from E.ON also said that the energy company is ready to start the process of asking for the opinions of local residents and businesses on the proposal. He further informed that the buying side of things would be sorted out once planning is determined.
