E.ON Ranks UK Homes using Energy Efficiency Exam
Posted on: June 4th, 2010 by Justin BecksAccording to new reports, properties around the UK have recently been being ranked according to their energy efficiency. Research conducted by the University of Sheffiled and E.ON rated a range of functioning homes between an A star and G star, depending on their efficiency. This is yet more proof that energy companies like E.ON are staying on top of trying to make the UK an environmentally friendly place.
The only place that was able to get an A star was the Great Bow Yard. This is an area located in Langport, Somerset. Dr Hasim Altan, a lecturer in Sustainable Living at the University of Sheffield’s Building Energy Analysis Unit, also worked on this project.
Dr Hasim Altan commented on the results by saying that some properties are naturally more energy efficient than others. Some places just have to work even harder to become more energy efficient. However, by making a few small changes, whether these changes are behavioral or physical, customers could find themselves on the right road to upping their grades.
A lot of the higher scoring properties were, of course, newer buildings. The study found that most buildings made after 2000, including student flats in Lancaster, ranked fairly well on the exam. However, an end terrace house in Hampton Peterborouh was able to achieve a B rating. Thus, the study shows that any home can be more energy efficient if the owners work at it. Although not all homes will be able to achieve an A ranking, many G star homes could easily improve their rating by simply making a few changes.
