E.ON Sustainable Energy Provides Energy Saving Lights for Blackpool

Posted on: February 2nd, 2010 by Emma Young

Reports show that new energy saving street lights and traffic signals are going up all over Blackpool. This little upgrade is set to save Blackpool Council tax payers almost 25 percent on their street lighting bills. It helps to save the planet too by removing over 1400 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

E.ON Sustainable Energy, which is part of E.ON, is all set to install and maintain all street lights and traffic signals on behalf of the Community Lighting Partnership. Work was started on the project at the start of 2010. Now Blackpool’s 20,000 street lights and 2,000 traffic sigals on nearly 430 km of highway are going to be switched over to energy saving light bulbs.

This is now the second largest scale energy saving street light project that E.ON Sustainable Energy has been involved with. The fact that E.ON Sustainable Energy chooses to stick with these projects shows its commitment to helping to reduce carbon emissions.

The Managing Director of E.ON Sustainable Energy, Michael Woodhead, said that they are delighted to be able to support the people of Blackpool in lighting the way for a new era of energy saving projects. This is just yet another example of E.ON’s commitment to changing the way people view and use energy. E.ON Sustainable Energy will continue to work hard to reduce the carbon footprint and energy costs of homes, buildings, and businesses all across the UK.

This is the first project of its kind to include both street lights and traffic signals. The use of LED traffic signal heads will not only save significant amounts of energy and carbon, but also reduce the cost of annual maintenance for the Council.
