Europcar and Renault Enter Into “Zero Emission Mobility” Agreement
Posted on: September 23rd, 2009 by Emma YoungRenault and Europcar have just announced a common goal to expedite the process of implementing new policies which would catalyze Renault’s “Zero-Emission” vehicles project. The agreement was penned and signed at the International Motor Show held last week in Frankfurt.
The project is part of a larger move, the “Renault Alliance electric vehicles” project, which will see 2,500 car rental agencies in Europe, including Europcar rolling out a new fleet of electric vehicles made by Renault. The programme will also implement the infrastructure, such as battery charging stations, needed to support such vehicles.
Europcar, a partner with the Renault Group in Europe, are aiming to provide their customers with greener alternatives to petrol-fueled vehicles. The program will allow Europcar to offer short-term rent services for electric vehicles throughout Europe, once the proper infrastructure is in place.
Currently electric vehicles have proven to be the cleanest form of transport, however, as of now Europe lacks the infrastructure to support them on a widespread scale. According to research studies conducted by Renault, 80 percent of motorists in Europe travel up to 60 kilometres per day. By implementing measures that would encourage electric vehicle ownership and rental, the companies hope to make a positive impact on climate change.
The agreement is just another in a series of agreements made between Renault and Europcar. Europcar’s already environmentally-strong approach to rental cars has only been reinforced by the recent projects with Renault. The company has been seen as a pioneer in the EV rentals field, being the first European car rental company to offer transport of this nature.
