Figures Show Wind Energy Supply is to Increase by 13 Percent
Posted on: June 18th, 2010 by Emma YoungThe available supply of renewable energy that is generated by wind is currently expected to increase by some 13 percent by the end of 2010 according to brand new figures. Right now the European Wind Energy Association has predicted that the total installed capacity of wind energy in the European Union will reach almost 85GW by the end of the year.
The head of communications at RenewableUK, Nick Medic, said that people in the UK are showing increasing levels of support for the renewable energy source. The public opinion polls consistently show high levels of support for wind energy overall.
He went on to say that, looking at independent polling and government polling, people can see that up to 80 percent of people in the country support the deployment of wind energy. It is good to see public support behind a renewable energy source.
These new comments coincide with the launch of Wind Week in the UK. This kicked off on Saturday, June 12th. A 43-foot wind turbine has been installed in London’s Leicester Square as part of this celebration. The aim of this celebration is to raise awareness of the opportunities that are provided by wind energy as a whole.
No matter what kind of renewable energy the public chooses to back, experts agree that the support is a good thing. In order to make renewable energy work, people have to believe in it. People have to stop fighting change, because change is not always bad. In fact, change could be what saves this dying planet. Wind, tidal and solar energy are all helping to provide the UK with clean energy.
