Firms welcome expansion of nuclear power

TEES engineering firms have supported the calls by John Hutton, the Business Secretary that Britain must expand its nuclear power generation base so as to ensure national security as well as to combat climate change.
Recently the Business Secretary called for the United Kingdom to invest in the development of nuclear technology and become a global leader in the generation of nuclear power. He specifically called for the creation of a nuclear power industry worth twenty billion pounds which would generate one hundred thousand jobs.
TEES engineering firms are of the view that if this is done it would create numerous opportunities for local firms.
The sales and marketing director of Darchem Engineering which is based in Stillington, John Padbury was supportive of the Business Secretary’s remarks but warned that developing a twenty billion pound industry would take a long time. John Padbury however wholly agreed with the fact that the construction of nuclear reactors would create opportunities for UK firms saying that his firm was well poised for this eventuality.
Darchem Engineering supplies insulation systems for nuclear reactors in France where close to eighty per cent of the electricity is generated by nuclear reactors.
Not surprisingly nuclear power is top on the agenda of the discussions recently held by Nicolas Sarkozy the visiting French President and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Also welcoming John Hutton’s call is Union Unite which asked the nuclear power regulator and the government to ensure that high international standards are met for the proposed new sites. The union added that if this was done the power generated could even be exported.
