Gore accused of using climate change to increase fortune
Posted on: November 4th, 2009 by adminFormer US vice president Al Gore, claimed by others as the first ‘carbon billionaire’ in the world, has been accused of producing money from the climate change agenda. Gore is in line of earning a large profit from Silver Spring Networks, a producer of smart meters for monitoring household electricity use.
Since leaving office, Gore has been campaigning on green issues, which helped him raise his fortune from an estimated £12 million to £60 million. His attempts to promote awareness among people about global warming resulted in the making of the 2006 film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, winner of Oscar’s best documentary award.
Gore was also a Nobel Peace Prize recipient in 2007. He had just published ‘Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis’, his newest book on global warming, and on new energy saving technologies and policies.
He has made huge investments in pro-environment projects like solar power, biofuels, carbon trading markets, electric vehicles, waterless lavatories and sustainable fish farming. He has also put money into non-climate change related businesses, such as Google and Apple.
Gore denied that he was going to be a ‘carbon billionaire’. He further accused that the new nickname came from non-supporters of climate change.
During a hearing of the legislation on clean energy, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn questioned Gore over his investments. He defended that he puts the money he earned from his investments into the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit campaigner against global warming.
But climate change skeptic Marc Morano is not convinced of Gore’s answer and accused him of becoming the first carbon billionaire.
