Green energy to add household bills by £260

The wind energy programme that has been unveiled by the government will cause an increase of two hundred and sixty sterling pounds to the annual household bills. But the government has maintained that the sacrifice was necessary in order to cut down on the carbon emissions and meet the goals set by European Union on renewable energy.

The renewable energy programme by the government will cost one hundred billion sterling pounds and it will result in seven thousand wind energy turbines. Also under the recently-unveiled green energy programme, home owners will be given incentives to set up photovoltaic solar panels on their houses as well as wind energy turbines and other technologies that make use of the underground heat. Biowaste will also be used to generate electricity. While the British Prime Minister dubbed the programmed a green revolution, critics sent out caution that this was a mere dream. If the plans are to succeed at the minimum one new wind energy turbine would have to be erected on every single day for twelve more years in order to achieve the goals. And to ensure that there was backup power in times of calm winds and consequently low power production especially during hours of peak demand, gas, coal and nuclear power plants would still be needed.

The green energy programme is being implemented to avert a looming electricity crisis since in the next half a decade several nuclear power plants and coal power plants will be decommissioned.
