Halton Residents Making Their Homes More Energy Efficient

Posted on: January 15th, 2010 by Justin Becks

New reports show that energy consumers in one area of Cheshire are apparently reducing their home energy use and becoming more aware of energy efficiency. This is the suggestion of new figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change. They say that the average Halton resident reduced their energy consumption from 4,125 kilowatt hours in 2005, to just 3,953 kilowatt hours last year.

These figures also went on to reveal that consumers’ gas usage has also decreased. The stats show that 2005’s total of 17,782 kilowatt hours was much smaller than the 15,507 kilowatt hours in 2008. These were mirrored by Halton’s industrial use as well. This sector also recorded notable declines in their total amount of energy being consumed.

It now seems that energy efficiency is becoming higher up on most home owners’ agendas. This could be due to a few different reasons. First of all, people want to do their part in helping save the world. Second, people want to be able to save money on their energy bill, and the best way to do that is to make their homes more energy efficient. People are starting to consider their home energy use more carefully than ever before.

The Cheshire County Council recommends a number of energy saving tips for home owners on their website. Some of these tips include things like boiling only enough water in a kettle for what they need and turning off lights in empty rooms. However, one of the biggest things is wind proofing windows and doors. This means make sure that weather stripping on the doors and windows is not cracked or faded. This will help to prevent warm or cold air from entering or leaving the house.
