Honda Shows Off Home Solar Fuel Station Prototype
Posted on: February 4th, 2010 by Jenson BrayshawNew reports now show that Honda has just announced the release of a prototype for its very own solar hydrogen fueling station. This is a station that is designed to fit into a home owner’s garage. Pretty much the device works by converting water into hydrogen in order to charge fuel cells in electric vehicles.
According to reports from Honda, the charger takes about eight hours to fill a car with enough energy to make the daily commute to work. Thus, the aim here is to make these fuel cell electric vehicles more practical for everyday use.
Right now the system has been declared the most compact solar hydrogen fueling station of its kind in the world. It also offers 25 percent more efficiency when compared to the previous models that it is going to be replacing. Experts say that this is finally a step in the right direction to make these new kind of cars a reality for everyday users.
By trying to keep sustainability in mind, the Solar Hydrogen Station is intended to make home re-fueling with clean energy easy. Right now this system is currently being tested in the Honda manufacturing center in Los Angeles.
Honda has been a market leader in alternative fuel development for quite some time. This is just yet another attempt by the company to lead the way with eco-friendly cars. The company has even developed its own solar cells to charge electric vehicles, which generates less carbon dioxide during energy production when compared to traditional cells.
Honda’s goal is to show the general public that doing the right thing for the environment does not mean that they have to go out of their way. Re-fueling these new cars can be easy and done from home.
