Iberdrola still interested in the UK market

Posted on: June 17th, 2008 by Emma Young

Iberdrola the energy utility from Spain has admitted that it was still interested in developing nuclear power plants in the United Kingdom even though it had pulled out of the bidding for British Energy.

Jose Luis del Valle, who only recently retired as ScottishPower’s chief executive officer and succeeded by Nick Horler disclosed that for Iberdrola to grow in the United Kingdom part of their electricity generation had to be from nuclear reactors.

Jose Luis del Valle whose responsibility will now include heading the operations of Iberdrola in both the United States and the United Kingdom said that ScottishPower would find a way to be involved in nuclear energy with the help of Iberdola which had the experience that ScottishPower lacked in the nuclear energy sector.

The chairperson of Iberdola Ignacio Galan, also reinforced what had been said by Jose Luis del Valle arguing that the policy by the United Kingdom government to expand the capacity of nuclear energy generation presented Iberdola with numerous opportunities which they had to take advantage of.

Meanwhile another energy utility made it to the news after sending a former customer who was no longer using their services a bill of over ninety million pounds! It is estimated that for one to incur such a bill they would have had to have their lights on non-stop since the beginning of the twentieth century.

The customer who was sent the erroneous bill was shocked considering that she had ceased being a customer of Npower and was now with E.ON. To make it worse she is a prepaid customer. Npower has since then made a cancellation of the erroneous bill.
