International Energy Agency Speaks Highly of Biofuels

According to some brand new reports from the International Energy Agency, biofuels could account for more than a quarter of transport fuel usage by the year 2050. This study, which was called the Biofuels for Transport Study, suggests that environmentally friendly fuels could provide at least 27 percent of all transport sector fuel. This would, of course, have to be done in a way that would not harm food production.

The report says that by doing this, it would be able to provide one fifth of the required emission reduction in the sector. This would be about the same as getting rid of 2.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The director of sustainable policy and technology for the International Energy Agency, Bo Diczfalusy, said that, while vehicle efficiency will be the key area to work on to reduce carbon emissions, biofuel usage can play a big part in this as well. That is why further support is needed in advanced biofuel research. Things can still be improved in this area in order to lower the cost of fuel.

Overall, this has been some very welcoming news from environmental groups. Many groups have been saying for years that biofuels could really help save the planet if more research was done in the industry. However, so many groups and governments have let biofuels fall by the waste-side in favor of other types of energy.

Currently it is not known how many governments will consider the information that was found out in this report. However, experts think that at least some people will now be able to see the importance of biofuels and the role it can play in the world’s future.
