On July 30th, 2008, at Carpinteria, CA (USA), the fast growing organization in the field of wind power technology, Clipper Windpower shook hands with BP Alternative energy to develop a project formally named Rolling Thunder. It is a South-Dakota based wind energy venture that will generate 5,050 MW of energy. For this project, the two energy giants have decided upon 50-50 partnership. Actually, this project is an extension of the previously announced joint venture of 1,550MW between the two. Now, they have expanded it by adding another 3,500MW to it. The Titan wind plan will reach towards its commencement in gradual phases. Once completed, it will become the world’s biggest wind energy generator.

It has also been decided that as the project will shape up in the future, they will come together in a (”MTSA”) Master Turbine Supply Agreement as well. This union will facilitate Clipper Windpower’s 2.5MW Liberty Wind turbines towards the supply of 2,020MW. The project will depend on certain terms and conditions of MTSA.

James GP Dehlsen, the chairperson and CEO of Clipper Windpower has acknowledged  BP’s committment towards their international image in the area of renewable energy. This is an unprecedented effort. He also shared that this landmark project will supply clean and green power to nearly 1.5 million American homes. It would help in off lifting approximately 24 billion pounds CO2 from the atmosphere.

The 2.5MW Liberty Turbines that will be used in the Titan project are the America’s biggest turbines so far.
