Liligo Says Budget Airlines Have Smaller Carbon Footprint
Posted on: December 23rd, 2009 by Samantha DonovanIt now appears that new research from Liligo has revealed that low cost airlines are a greener option for travelers. By using a Carbon Footprint tool on Liligo’s website, travelers are able to gauge the environmental impact of their flight and travel. This allows the traveler, for the first time, to be able to make their own choices depending on how green they want to be.
In light of this new information, delegates at this week’s UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen should be taking a closer look at low cost airlines when discussing the impact of flights on climate change. These low cost flights could be just the thing that the airline industry needs in order to get everyone back on their side. As of now, many people are starting to choose rail over flights for short haul trips.
Of course, there are more benefits for businesses and travelers for choosing a low budget airline over a standard airline. Some reports show that a low cost budget flight can save companies tons of money, and thus, they may not have to cut out business trips all together. Also, these low cost flights could be reducing the amount of flight carbon footprint that is linked to their company by over 30 percent.
Experts have backed up this new find by saying that these low cost airlines are reducing their carbon footprint in a number of ways. First, budget airlines fit more seats in their planes than standard airlines, allowing more people to ride on one flight and, thus, reducing the number of flights that have to be used. This is also possible because low budget airlines actually fill more seats per plane.
