Low usage of energy-saving light bulbs in Scotland
Posted on: April 28th, 2008 by Emma YoungA new survey has shown that the usage of energy-saving light bulbs in Scotland is lower than in the rest of the United Kingdom.
In Scotland approximately twenty seven per cent of households are making use of the energy-saving light bulbs in comparison with England where it is fifty per cent of the households. In Northern Ireland the figure is even higher with fifty nine per cent of the households using energy-saving light bulbs, while in Wales forty four per cent of the households are using the environmentally responsible devices.
A study conducted by the Energy Saving Trust shows households in Scotland could generate savings of up to ninety eight million pounds annually by using the energy-saving light bulbs. The electricity savings that would be made would be equivalent to the combined annual consumption of approximately 280,300 households.
The research carried out by the Energy Saving Trust also found out that eighty three per cent of those who used energy-saving light bulbs found them to be as good as those of the standard kind. Unfortunately for those who used them in their houses they only installed the energy-saving bulbs in just a few places.
The study revealed that people living in Glasgow could generate savings of up to twelve million pounds in both the cost of the electricity and the amount of electricity consumed. People living in Edinburgh on the other hand could generate savings of up to nine million pounds.
The director of the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland, Mike Thornton, revealed that lighting contributed to about fifteen per cent of the electricity costs in a home and using energy-saving light bulbs would save people money and was environmentally responsible as well.
