Man Dies at RWE npower’s Scottish Wind Farm
Posted on: September 17th, 2009 by Lynnette AdamsonAt a wind farm owned and operated by RWE npower a man has been reported dead after being found unconscious on top one of the farm’s large wind turbines. Although the details of the accident have not bee released, the man is said to have died while performing routine maintenance on one of the turbines at the wind farm today.
Police were called to the Causeymire Wind Farm in Thurso, Scotland around 9.15 in the morning, as well as an ambulance and three fire trucks. The fire engines left however, when it was confirmed at 10.25 AM that the man had in fact died. The Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service responded to the emergency call when the report came in that an unknown male worker had been found unconscious and was stuck on the turbine.
The wind farm, owned by RWE npower renewables, is located in Thurso just south of Spittal near the A9 in Caithness. It has been reported that the man who died is a Caithness man, however details on his name and of the accident are being withheld until all next of kin have been notified of the tragic accident.
RWE npower’s spokeswoman said that the company regrets the accident which involved a fatality at their wind farm today and that the cause of the incident will be investigated by the company who plans to fully cooperate with any investigations from the Health and Safety Executive.
A spokeswoman for the Northern Constabulary said that no details of the accident will be released just yet, and that police inquires are being made into the details regarding the death and a report will be submitted in due course. Additionally, the spokeswoman confirmed that the Health and Safety Executive had been notified of the accident.
