Marriott International Speeds Output of Green Hotels

Well, Marriott International is one of the few companies that will actually do something about it. Just recently the big hotel chain announced that it would be expanding its green hotel portfolio ten fold over the next five years. This will be done by introducing a new green hotel prototype that will be pre-certified LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system that was designed by the United States Green Building Council. The green hotel prototype, which will first become available to accept guests in April of 2010, will save owners almost $100,000 and six months in design time and costs. It will also reduce the amount of energy and water that is consumed by the hotel by almost 25 percent, based on national averages.
These new savings offered by LEED buildings can provide a payback in investment after only two years. However, the hotel chains that do choose to go with LEED buildings like Marriott International, will not only be saving money, but will be doing their part in lowering their carbon emissions. This is something that all companies are going to have to think about if saving the planet is something they want to take part in.
The Marriott President and Chief Operating Officer, Arne Sorenson, said that these new green hotels will give Marriott International the competitive edge that it needs with guests. This goes double for guests who prefer to do their part by staying in a green hotel.
