Negotiators from the UK head to UN Climate Change Conference
Posted on: December 3rd, 2010 by Jenson BrayshawApparently the eyes of the world are looking toward Mexico this week. This is because UK leaders are gathering there to take part in a Climate Change Conference in Cancun. Speaking at the opening of the event, which happened earlier this week, the Mexican President Felipe Calderon, urged UN negotiators to make progress in climate talks.
He went on to say that what this means is that these negotiators will not be in Cancun alone negotiating. By their side there will be billions of human beings. These people are waiting for an answer on the climate problems that are facing the planet.
The Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Chris Huhne, said that people around the world will be expecting them to prepare the ground work for major changes to the way that people live. However, he also admitted that a full binding deal would not be made in the Cancun talks, which will run until December 10.
Chris said that progress will be made on issues including providing financial assistance to developing countries to deal with climate change. They also want to come up with a system to ensure that countries stick to their emission reduction targets.
Overall, this is a big meeting for the whole world. This meeting should start laying the ground work to get countries started on the right path to lowering their emissions. In order to stop and reverse climate change, countries have to be able to reduce their emissions. Each country is going to have to have certain emission reduction targets that they need to reach in order for any kind of change to take place.
