New electric car on the market

Posted on: March 31st, 2008 by Emma Young

There will be a new electric motor vehicle on the market towards the end of the year. The name of the car is ‘THINK’ and it is built in Norway by a firm called THINK too.

The new electric car gets its power from an ordinary socket and charging it once will enable it to operate for one hundred and twenty four miles in city conditions. But as with all electric vehicles the number of miles it can run on one charge will depend enormously on how it is driven, the number of passengers it is carrying and the weight of luggage in it.

The car uses a four kilowatt heater which is a heavy battery power consumer. The top speed that the electric car can reach is sixty five miles per hour and it can accelerate from zero speed to thirty miles per hour in a span of six and a half seconds.

THINK, the manufacturer of the electric car estimates that the cost of electricity for ten thousand miles will be in the range of one hundred and twenty five pounds.

The body of the new electric car is manufactured from abs plastic and since there is no paint required the car is scratch-proof. It is also environmentally friendly since the bodywork and a lot of other parts in the interior of the car are recyclable. THINK also passes the safety standards in the United States and Europe - unlike some other electric cars.

Other electric cars that have been manufactured in the past include the Enfield 8000, Peugeot 106 and Tesla Roadster.
