New Plug-in Car Grant Offers Great Opportunity for the Motor Industry
Posted on: December 20th, 2010 by Jenson BrayshawIt now seems that a new plug-in car grant will present great opportunities for the UK motor industry as a whole. Paul Everitt, the chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufactured and Traders, said, when speaking in response to the government’s announcement of nine eligible low-carbon cars eligible for the scheme, the plug-in car grant and the infrastructure investment through the Plugged In Places scheme is helping to create consumer demand.
Philip Hammond, who is the Transport Secretary, had unveiled plans for further investment in electric charging infrastructures. He wants these to be located all across the UK. He also went on to reveal some more information about the grant in general. He said that, starting January 1 of 2011, they will be providing up to 5,000 pounds towards the cost of a low-carbon car.
Mr Everitt said that the motor industry is making great progress in delivering pratical, low-carbon vehicles. People will see these ideas progress even further as new and conventional technologies are released in the years to come. He went on to add that the two schemes confirm that the UK is a leading player in making low-carbon opportunities. The UK wants to make low-carbon products an economic winner for consumers as a whole.
Although these plug-in cars would save people money in the long run, it is still hard for people to want to invest in these kinds of cars due to the price. If these prices could come down and there was more charging infrastructure around the UK, then people would consider making the switch. Hopefully this new scheme will help more people want to make the switch over to low-carbon vehicles.
