Nissan Shows off New Electric Car

Posted on: August 5th, 2009 by Emma Young

In Japan, Nissan has unveiled its latest green car model known as the Leaf. The car is a zero emissions electric vehicle that runs on a lithium ion battery. The Leaf is also able to carry up to five adult passengers at one time, making it one of the bigger fully electric cars ever made.

The Leaf allows its drivers to get around 100 miles on just one charge. On top of this, the car’s battery can be charged up to 80 percent full power in just 30 minutes. The lithium ion battery is able to generate a total power output of 90kW, and the electric motor delivers about 80kW/280Nm.

The president and chief executive of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, said that the Nissan Leaf is a big accomplishment for the company. He also said that this is an accomplishment that all of the Nissan employees can take great pride in being a part of. The company was able to make a car that did, not just reduce emissions, but makes zero emissions.

Of course, the Nissan Leaf is not going to just stay in Japan. The Leaf is set to enter the Japanese, European, and US markets in late 2010. Pricing information will be announced later on - closer to the release of the car.

This is a car that could really help the UK reach its goal on lowering carbon emissions all over the country. Energy experts in the UK have already said that this is a goal that the UK government cannot reach on its own. This is a goal that can only be reached when home owners, companies, and the government all come together for the same cause.
