Novotel Hotel Planned for Auckland Airport in 2011
Posted on: July 24th, 2009 by Emma YoungConstruction plans for a new Novotel Hotel to be built at the Auckland International Airport (AIAL) in New Zealand have been set in motion. The deal which links the Novotel hotel with hotel group Accor, Tainui Group Holdings and Auckland International Airport will see construction being completed in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011.
Tainui Group Holdings will be the lead developer and maintain a majority interest in the joint agreement. AIAL will retain a minority interest from the hotel profit. The hotel will be managed on a long term ground lease by hotel group, Accor. The total estimated budget is NZ $65million which will include initial hotel construction costing approximately $45million. The deal will only be finalized when finance and construction tender are confirmed.
Accor New Zealand Vice President Paul Richardson said after the announcement that, “This will be a very significant hotel for New Zealand’s business and tourism infrastructure. Novotel has been selected as the ideal hotel for the Airport because it can cater for such a wide variety of markets and is renowned world-wide for providing upscale accommodation at value for money rates. With our considerable experience in New Zealand and our expertise in operating airport hotels we are confident of making the Novotel an outstanding gateway offering truly international accommodation, conference and food and beverage facilities.”
Accor is well known for its involvement specifically with airport hotels. Accor currently runs hotels located at globally recognized airports such as London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, Paris’ Charles de Gaulle, Berlin’s Tegel, and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi, as well as hotels at Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and the new Novotel Brisbane Airport, which is slated to open soon.
