Following suit with many of the other UK energy provides, Npower is choosing to finally cut their prices. Although the power bills are being cut, gas customers are still going to be angered by the decision to level gas prices at historically high marks.
Npower has made note that it will be reducing its electrical power prices by 8%. The company, who has more than 6 million customers, said that this cut should come on March 31. The company also stated that most of their customers should notice that their power bills could go down as much as £43 a year.
Although their has been a big fall in the overall price of gas, Npower did not announce any plans to change the price of its domestic gas services. Back in August of 2008, Npower had raised their gas prices by 26%. The power company stated that this was due to the amazingly high wholesale gas prices. The CEO of Npower did note that wholesale gas prices are sill a good deal higher than what they were in 2007. He also added that Npower was very determined to help reduce prices for their electricity customers. In the end, he added that the company will be keeping their prices under review in order to stay competitive.
Out of the six big power firms in the UK, Npower is the last of them to reduce prices. However, all of the power firms have had different ways of dealing with price reduction. e.on chose to lower its electricity bills by as much as 9%; however, they too did not cut gas prices. British Gas on the other hand did cut gas prices (by 10%), but did not touch their electricity prices.
