Npower Reports Rise in Homeowners Trying to Take Advantage of Feed in Tariffs
Posted on: May 3rd, 2010 by Justin BecksIt now seems that Npower has reported a rise of 80 percent in the number of Brits that have inquiries for solar panel installations. They have also reported an increase of the number of people that are having these panels installed for them.
A lot of this has to do with the introduction of feed in tariffs. This has led to a record number of inquiries about solar panel installations so homeowners can take advantage of this new scheme. The good news is that this is what the feed in tariffs were suppose to do in the first place.
There are record numbers of people having panels installed in repose to the introduction of the Clean Energy Cashback scheme that came into affect April 1 by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Just in one month, Npower has installed 55 solar panel systems and responded to 200 requests for information on installation. The solar expert from Npower, Louisa Gilchrist, said it’s fantastic to see feed in tariffs generating so much interest with homeowners. The scheme should be applauded for energizing the solar industry in the UK.
These feed in tariffs, which are also known as FITs, pay homeowners and businesses for the generation of their own electricity through low carbon means. Anyone that is generating their own electricity through accredited solar technology can receive 41.3p for every unit of electricity they generate. Homeowners can choose to use the electricity they produce or feed it back into the national grid.
Government figures estimate that a typical house could generate an income of up to £960 a year through the use of solar panels. This increased interest in solar panels is likely to stimulate the manufacturing of solar panels, and thus, create more jobs.
