Pennsylvania State University Gets a Visit From President Obama As He Talks About Energy Efficiency
Posted on: January 31st, 2011 by Jason DrewThe President of the United States, Barack Obama, has just recently visited Pennsylvania State University. While he was there, he highlighted the need for cutting edge research in energy efficiency. He said that this is something that has to be researched and improved on.
The whole point of Obama’s visit to the University was to cash in on his call for more research and innovation in clean energy technology. This is something that he called for during last Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
The latest State of the Union address showed that the United States government is well aware of the energy crisis. They also know that something has to be done about it, and it has to be done soon. In order to make this work, new technology is going to have to be researched.
Just recently, Pennsylvania State was given a $122 million grant by the Department of Energy. The government office wants the University to use this money on its energy innovation hub. After all, this University is the leading research institute in energy-efficient building design and retrofitting.
While visiting the campus, the president visited labs related to structural engineering and architecture. A spokeswoman for the University, Lisa Powers, told the media that they currently have at least 150 researchers working on just energy efficiency alone.
Overall, it is easy to see why Pennsylvania State University got this grant. This could give the United States a big push in the direction of energy efficiency. This is great news, because becoming energy-efficient is a common goal that everyone in the United States should share.
